CHRISTINA GROSSO, PhD

Dr. Christina Grosso has an extensive background encompassing roles as a clinician, supervisor, trainer, and leader, specializing in the treatment of complex trauma in children, adolescents, and individuals with mental illness, as well as intellectual and developmental disorders. She brings a wealth of experience in Trauma Informed Care and evidence-based practices, honed through her over 20-year tenure at the Jewish Board.

During her time at the Jewish Board, Christina led the agency’s trauma training and organizational development efforts, with a particular focus on Veteran and family reintegration, milieu services, and affirming care for all clients. She established best practice guidelines ensuring the protection of LGBTQ clients and staff, and pioneered an LGBT Climate Survey to gauge employee attitudes towards working with this demographic.

Christina's career has been dedicated to implementation science and fostering system change, consulting nationally with child psychiatric centers and residential treatment facilities to promote Trauma Informed Care. She has contributed significantly to the field through publications on trauma, art therapy, self-care, and Trauma Focused CBT.

Currently, as the founder of Mind+Body=ONE, Integrative Mental Health & Optimal Performance, LLC, Christina continues her mission to destigmatize mental health. Her approach integrates psychotherapy, psychophysiology, and creativity, offering treatment to children, adults, and families. Services include individual therapy, biofeedback, and optimal performance training for athletes and executives. She also provides consultation and training in corporate wellness, emphasizing mindful and authentic leadership principles.

Christina is a faculty member at New York University's Steinhardt School Graduate Art Therapy Department. She is a practicing artist, focusing on abstract expressionism and process-based response art. Her academic achievements include a doctorate in Mind-Body Medicine, with her dissertation exploring the correlation between creativity and resilience among mental healthcare providers during the COVID-19 federal emergency period.

The Defense
(Mixed Media on Paper, 12” x 12”)

This piece was created as a response art on the final day of my doctoral journey, following the defense of my dissertation. I had a surge of emotion including relief, joy, gratitude, exhaustion, and pride. I returned to school later in life to pursue my doctorate while raising a family, managing a full-time private practice, and teaching. My days were long and at times the journey felt endless. On this day it felt surreal. I had navigated this vast and at times unpredictable landscape and was now present in the moment of achievement. Allowing all of my emotions, thoughts, and reflections to surface, I intuitively embarked on the creation of The Defense.
