AISLING FEGAN,
Art Psychotherapist and
group analyst in training
I am an Irish artist, community-based art psychotherapist and group therapist. Based in the United Kingdom, I am part of the Group Analysis India cohort undertaking the qualifying course in group analysis; accredited with the Institute of Group Analysis, London. With a lived experience of wellness owed to a therapeutic community, I do not see through a medicalised lens and know how politics permeates us deeply to our core.
For anyone interested in how I work, I have a new (ONLINE) group analytic therapy group; starting soon. The fee is $150 per month. This talking therapy group will run weekly, for a minimum of two years. Please do not hesitate to get in touch for more information.
Alongside my private practice, I proudly work for icap; an organisation that works with members of our Irish diaspora in the UK and on island of Ireland. In June 2017, I worked as part of the community-led response to the Grenfell Tower fire in London and helped to create Latimer Community Art Therapy. With Solas Mind, I provided art psychotherapy to people working in film production, through the pandemic.
I am seen therefore I exist

According to psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott, the early development of the self is based on the idea that, “I am seen, therefore I exist”. It is through this process of being seen, the different parts of the self can be integrated. (Winnicott 1967:11) When intolerable distress is disavowed, not recognised, contained (within the self or by others) or reflected back to us in a digested form – this creates a void-like, ‘lack’ that can become lodged and internalised in our psyche’s; disconnecting us from our authentic self and true reality.
