My photographs explore the human condition. In my series“Mystical Journey to India,” I hoped to capture the mystical interaction between the perceptible and the transcendent that many experience when they journey to India.
I am going to lead you on a journey.
Where do you want to go?
It is an exploration of the infinite (the things that live in dreams and hope) versus the finite (those things like poverty and hunger that contain us) that brings us to the question, Can we go anywhere?
Elderly Merchant
(Photographic Print)
An elderly man with a long beard is preparing paan, a potent mixture to take you on a journey. The light bulb over his head illuminates the scene. He exudes a sense of calm and wisdom. I later met the elderly men again in my first hypnotic regression, where he took me on walk through the streets of an ancient mediterranean city.
I captured the photo following a 14-hour flight from New York to Delhi. Upon arrival, I asked my friend to take me to a place which tourists do not tend to visit. He took me to a night market. The photo was taken between 1:00 - 2:00 am. I was the only woman walking through the dimly lit alleys. It was eerie, however, I am glad I got to capture this image, and briefly meet other mystical "figures of the night."
