KURT CHRISTIANSEN, PsyD
Much of the work I do with clients who have suffered immeasurable trauma, abuse, oppression, and neglect, is helping them to discover or recover their personal power. Through completing truncated defensive responses in the body and releasing shame-based beliefs, a person feels safer and stronger to move from self-preservation mode to a life of service in the name of love, goodness, truth, justice, equality, and fairness.
Through my art, I depict themes of how the intrapersonal and interpersonal connect with the social, cultural, and spiritual in a beautiful yet messy developmental dance toward greater truth, beauty, and goodness. This painting is not meant to make you feel comfortable, serene, or peaceful. It is a depiction of the power needed to blast away all that is not an energetic support for mutual respect and love for all beings.
What do you notice in your body as you look at this painting?
A Force of Love
(Acrylics on Canvas, 40” x 40”)
No!
I will not run. I will not submit. I will not avoid.
I will not stay still or quiet.
I am free. Powerful. Strong.
And will fucking annihilate the boxes you try to put me in.
No more!
I will roar to the heavens and the bowels of hell if I have to.
To get you to pay attention.
Because I’m here too. Not just you.
I’m important too.
I matter too.
So stop!
Taking your pain and insecurities out on me. Pushing your stories and beliefs onto me. Boxing me in.
Enough!
The line has been drawn.
A boundary set.
I will not let you hurt me again. I will not be dismissed.
Feel me in your gut. I’m there.
Own me and I will be in your service.
Channel me through your heart.
I am a force of love and goodness and I will not be told anything else.
I am worthy of dignity and respect and I will not settle for less.
I will fight for fairness and justice for all beings until my dying breath.
Hear my voice, look into my eyes. I’m not fucking around.
