After the first three months of providing tele-therapy to my clients, I was thankful for our decision as a family for a week of “sheltering-in-place” in a rented beachfront home in nearby Sandbridge, VA. Although Virginia beaches were closed other than for fishing and exercise, we knew walking the beach was great exercise...and a joy for us all. I packed some art supplies, including my glue-gun, with vague thoughts of walks together and gifts from the sea.

What I am thankful for was experiencing the Process by which this mosaic evolved, or was allowed. Very different than screen time with my clients over Zoom – much as I like and value each one – was the fresh and restorative mode of walking. Of gathering. Of creating.
We have all been taught the importance of “self-care” as therapists. For me, this mosaic now cues a felt body sense of relaxation and intentional self-care ... especially needed in these challenging times.
