ARIEL COHEN, MA, LMFT
My training in psychology has taught me to be flexible and open to new experience, and I apply that same philosophy to my art discipline. As an artist, my ultimate goal is to create works using imagery, themes, and stories that I come across in daily life. A more recent area of exploration in my artwork is the ever-evolving symbiotic relationship between ourselves and our environment.
Social Justice (Tikkun Olam)
(Acrylic and Collage on Canvas, 30” x 24” x 2”)
Tikkun Olam means ‘repair of the world’ in Hebrew. This painting embodies my psychological response to the events unfolding throughout the year 2020. While painting this piece, I spent time meditating on themes of social unrest, the fight against injustice, and the interconnectedness of all things. Some images in the painting were clear and intentional. Others emerged organically and remain relatively abstract. Overall, the piece is meant to evoke hope and to spotlight our incredible ability to endure, persevere, and overcome.
