JUDY TODD, PhD

After retiring from my small private practice and my full time position as a CSU professor of psychology in 2004, I returned to my original love -- making art. Since then my paintings have won awards in local, national, and international art shows. I work primarily in watercolor, using it in nontraditional ways and mixing it with other media. The theme of my work is appreciation of our brief time in this amazing world.

(15 x 15 watercolor and other media on paper)

My paintings are evocative, semi-abstract, conceptual landscapes, made with mixed media on paper. They are about the beauty of the world, eco-grief, and climate anxiety. I paint because I feel good while doing it, even when expressing grief and fear. We all need joy and beauty in order to deal with our feelings while we try to prevent environmental catastrophe. “Returnee” shows some hope for our world, by referencing the rebound of the monarch butterfly population after their numbers crashed in 2021.
