DAVID NEWMAN, LCSW
I have been a practicing psychotherapist for over25 years and a painter for 45.
I am today both seeing patients and painting. In both contexts, my work is an extensive process of unfolding and discovery. My paintings have most recently been engaged with finding ways to depict aspects of consciousness-its architecture and permeability, its evolution and relation to that of our nearest species- and its current context of environmental depredation, raging fires and waters.
Evolution (2020)
(Acrylic and Ink on Gessoed Wood Panel, 18” x 24”)
In this painting, I have in mind conscious and unconscious experience and recognition of multiple selves and parts of self, multiple identities and fragments there of, and the ways inner elements reflect external ones, and vice versa, including toxic climates.
