Psychotherapy serves the innate human capacity for resiliency, growth, and transformation. My work as an artist and psychotherapist bears witness to psyche as it is expressed through mythological and archetypal themes of ordinary, everyday lives. The images seek to mark the meeting point between inner/outer, personal/collective, banal/transcendent, to vivify and give voice to soul. With reverence and delight, I approach creativity as a dance of awe and suffering that holds the mysterious potential to bring forth what is known but not yet remembered.

The Black Madonna: Archetype of Transformation
(Mixed Media Acrylics, 3’ x 4’)

The Sorrowful Mother, Mater Dolorosa, is the dark-skinned symbol of our times. She represents the urgent call to receive, contain, and transform the unbearable pain of oppression and violence within our country, our communities, and ourselves. The Black Madonna’s gaze demands a return to wholeness- both in the outside world and within our own hearts.
