DEBORAH BAKER, PhD
Deborah Lee Baker is a clinical psychologist and abstract painter based in Los Angeles, CA. Her colorful and emotional paintings display a wide range of styles that revisit particular techniques, color combinations, and themes over time. Not surprisingly, psychological themes permeate her work. Her paintings have appeared in numerous TV shows and a few commercials. This is her 12th year showing in the annual Mirrors of the Mind show.
Desert

The desert has a way of humbling me in the most grounding way. For me, it is a place of refuge and reflection away from urban life, a chance to consider what is essential, to breathe in open space and connect to earth, to make room for new growth after a harsh dry spell. Realism is alive and well in the desert, the extreme environment at the ready to check any ego or foolishness. And yet when I flow with it--surrendering to the brightness, the starry darkness, the pace and nature of life in the desert--an oasis appears and refreshes me so that I may move forward once again.
