Dream Muse.Um
(Video, Polymer Clay and Plaster)

I’ve recorded my dreams all my life, but discovered new depths during my time seeing a Jungian psychotherapist and attending Pacifica Graduate Institute.

In addition to writing my dreams, I work with digital collage, crayon, pastels, and other mediums, but discovered a real love for polymer clay.

The sculptures in this piece are made of polymer clay and painted with acrylic. The shelves that contain them are made of recycled moving boxes, papier mâchéd with old journal pages, essay drafts, sketches, etc., and then covered with plaster and sealed.

I think of dreamwork as a conversation between the unconscious and conscious psyche. When I create sculptures of images presented in a dream, I am doing so in order to listen better and contribute my own limited expression. My aim is to bring the dream world into waking life, to materialize that which lingers in the ephemeral inner space, and brings me literally and metaphorically in touch with the prima materia of the imagination. I hope my work will inspire others in an exploration and materialization of their dreams.
