Joy may be instantaneous or can evolve from pain transcended. The original British settlers of Shelburne County, Nova Scotia (founded in 1784) arrived in defeat after being evacuated from the newly independent USA. We can imagine their discouragement. Yet they built charming homes bathed in bold, unrestrained colors. I found this vegetable garden off the beaten path, pulling my eyes irresistibly toward the sun. Losses would not defeat joy!
