ARIEL COHEN, LMFT
My training in psychology has taught me to be flexible and open to new experience, and I apply that same philosophy to my art discipline. As an artist, my ultimate goal is to create works using imagery, themes, and stories that I come across in daily life. A more recent area of exploration in my artwork is the symbiotic relationship between ourselves and our environment.
Uncaged
(Acrylic and Oil Pastel on Paper, 8” x 8”)
This painting comes from a collaboration with my good friend who is a musician. He sent me song recordings, and I created a painting in response. The personal connection that I feel toward this collaboration seems particularly poignant after the extreme isolation many of us have endured during the pandemic. Healthy relationships play such an important role in mental and emotional health, and the uplifting nature of being in contact with someone I know, appreciate, and trust helped me reflect on and develop the imagery for this painting.
