This painting was done at Delphi, on Mt. Parnassus, the site of the ancient Greek oracle. As I sat on the stone through which the mysterious gas was supposed to come, I imagined the oracle getting her inspiration from breathing in the gas and thought of the connection between inspiration and respiration.
Oracle at Delphi
(Watercolor, 5” x 7”)
Today the Oracle at Delphi has become a symbol for prophecy all around the world, and Mystic Oracle of Delphi was the most powerful woman in ancient Greece. Painting is a form of meditation for me as I immerse myself in the present moment, noticing shadows on the rocks and the tilt of the columns. Doing this painting connected me to an earlier form of prophecy, which is very related to psychotherapy, as it helps me hone my intuition and observation skills.
